Cat Safe plants to liven up your home: Everyone knows that plants are a wonderful way to spruce up your home! While we may be enticed to decorate our spaces with lush greenery, it is important to remember that some kitties enjoy chewing away at plants. Even with cat grass available, your cat might take a liking to your
houseplants instead!
Some of the most popular houseplants are toxic to pets and could severely endanger your furry friend. The following list offers just a handful of plants that will keep your home looking pretty without risking your pal’s safety.
1.Boston Fern:
Ferns are a classic plant that many people are familiar with. They thrive in indirect light and humid climates. They make great indoor plants, as well as outdoor plants during the summertime.
2.Jasmine:
Jasmine is one of my favourite plants! They have cute and delicate flowers that give off a pleasant aroma. They grow pretty fast so pruning will be necessary. You can also keep them outdoors and have them grow upwards!
3.Sunflowers:
Sunflowers are classic flowers that everyone recognizes. With their beautiful yellow blooms, they will definitely brighten up any yard or garden.
4.Spider Plant:
No need to be afraid of this plant! Spider plants, also known as ribbon plants, are common houseplants that are available at many stores. They have beautiful long leaves and are low maintenance. They are also said to purify the air! Kitties may take an extra liking to spider plants as they give off the same scent as catnip!
5.Orchids:
Who doesn’t love orchids? These flowers come in a variety of different colours and can make wonderful centrepieces. They require a little more maintenance but can live for years! You can find orchids almost anywhere.
6.Venus Fly Trap:
This one is for the people who want a plant with a little bite! Venus flytraps are surprisingly safe and non-toxic to cats and dogs. They make great plants for curious kids who are interested in botany and science!
7.Roses:
Luckily, roses are pet safe! Everyone is familiar with roses. They may be some of the most iconic flowers of all time! Did someone get you a bouquet? Even if your furry friend loves it as much as you do, you can rest assured that they won’t have any tummy trouble if they try to take a bite!
8.Parlor Palm:
These plants have beautiful small fronds and are quite easy to take care of! They look like little bamboo forests and can grow quite tall! My kitty loves to tickle his nose on the leaves. They are quite common so picking one up shouldn’t be too difficult.
9.Hibiscus:
A huge summer favourite, hibiscus plants are known for their big blossoms and vibrant colours. Hibiscus plants are perfect for brightening up a room or a garden. They give off wonderful tropical vibes. With the right conditions, your hibiscus plant should produce many beautiful flowers all through the summer.
10.African Violet:
African violets are iconic plants that are readily available when the gardening season comes around. They have cute violet flowers and large green leaves. They are a little temperamental but offer a sweet and elegant accent to any room.
In conclusion, cats and plants can live safely together just make sure it’s the right plant. Check out our post on Catnip, the perfect plant for cats.
