How to Choose the Right Pet sitter for Your Winter Getaway? So you are planning a vacation (big or small) to escape this Canadian winter and there’s one thing left to do, Plan for a pet sitter.  Heres’ some things to consider when choosing the right pet sitter

Are they a Professional Business:

When hiring someone to come into your home and care for your fur baby, you want to make sure they are legitimate. Whether they are new to pet sitting or an experienced sitter, you want to make sure they know how to care for the pets you have and that they conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Are they insured?

Do they have liability insurance to cover themselves and your pets in the event that something happens during their care. If the company has employees check to make sure the employees are covered by the insurance. Some companies use Independent contractors, not all Independent contractors are covered under company policies. If you are using a pet sitting service app that helps you connect with sitters in your area make sure to read the insurance policy for both the company and additional insurance the independent contractor might supply.

Does the business have an online presence?

Having a professional website explaining policies and services is important. Check for company reviews, read both the good reviews and the bad. Oftentimes reading how a company responds to a bad review says a lot more about them then the good reviews. Check to see what content is in the companies social media accounts. Social media is such a great way to see the culture of a company before doing business with them.

Terms and conditions?

Understanding a companies terms and conditions before services begin can prevent misunderstandings. Check for procedures on pet medical emergencies, how keys are managed, how the company handles sitter absences (will the company provide a backup sitter or will you be responsible for that)

What services are included?

Knowing what extra services are covered during visits. will they bring in the mail? water plants? care for other pets in the home? It’s important to find a company that will cover your needs. Also knowing if your sitter can provide additional services like lawn care, snow removal (most insurance policies do not cover these services and should anything happen your home owners insurance would have to cover)

Conclusion:

Not all pet sitting companies are the same. We suggest doing your research to find the one that best suits not only your needs but the needs of your fur baby too.
