Litter Scoop Review:
Why a Litter Scoop review? Well recently I broke a litter scoop and I had to replace it. I went to the pet store and was shocked to see the prices of some scoops, ranging from $5 to $20…This seemed pricey to me for a tool used to remove waste. So I started shopping around to see what I could find cheaper. I found 2 options for $1
- A white plastic one from Dollarama
- A black plastic one from IKEA
So I decided to do a review to see which one gives more bang for my buck. And here are the results
The Litter Scoops:
Dollarama
The scoop from Dollarama is from the Brand “Petstore” and cost $1.25. Overall the scoop is ok in its design. It has a nice wide mouth and a long handle. The grooves in the scoop are simple lines but seems to work well. It appeared to sag when I was scooping waste.
Pros:
- Price
- size
Cons
- kinda flimsy
- the handle is uncomfortable to hold
- the plastic grooves bend with very little pressure (might not hold up to the use especially in a multi-cat home)
IKEA
Pros:
The IKEA scoop is Lurvig brand is black and has a sleek design. Instead of grooves it has large holes. The cost is $0.99. Overall the Ikea scoop was sturdy . I noticed that it is deeper and can hold bigger clumps well.
- Price
- Size
- Sturdy built
- hanging clip on handle
Cons:
- short handle
Conclusion:
My conclusion is that I would recommend the IKEA scoop, definitely sturdier and a few cents cheaper. The handle was comfier than the dollar store one and it has a clip on the side so it can easily attach to the edge of your litter box. It was also deeper and able to handle larger clumps. With a price of $1, you could stock up and never be without a scoop.
