Why Cats Make Excellent Companions
By: Wei Kang Z.
There is a reason why so many people choose cats to be their pets. They are excellent companions. Since you are here, you are probably skeptical about getting a cat because you haven’t weighed the pros and cons of owning a cat. Let’s go over the pros that are present when you choose to own a cat.
1. They’re quiet
Cats can be quiet pets. Compared to a dog, cats are quiet pets depending on the cat’s personality. You don’t have to worry about it making too much noise so that you won’t get a noise complaint from a neighbour.
2. Low Maintenance
Cats are also low maintenance, so you don’t have to worry much about them. Compared to a dog, you don’t have to walk it for hours a day. So if you don’t feel like spending hours walking an animal, then a cat is the better option for you. Cats are also cleaner than most pets because they often groom themselves, so you don’t have to bathe them. They also cost less to raise compared to a dog. The cost to care for a cat is lower than most medium or large dogs because they required less food, toys and grooming are not needed as often.
3. Easily Trained
Cats can easily be house trained; most cats instinctively know what a litter box is, so you don’t have to potty train them. All you need to do is show them where the litter box is, and you need to show them how to dig in the litter box with your hand.
4. Independent
Cats are independent pets, so you don’t have to pour hours of attention on them every day. Cats are happy to be by themselves while you are at work or doing something else. They also sleep for 15 hours a day, so you don’t have to worry about them while you are busy.
5. Long Lifespan
Cats have a decently long life span of 12 years, so they can live for quite a while. It’s not uncommon for a cat to live past these 12 years. The oldest known cat died at the age of 38 and was named cream puff, so depending on how you take care of your cat, they can live for quite a while.
6. Built-in Exterminator
Cats can also keep your house safe from pests. Cats are used to pouncing and hunting for their prey so they can keep unwanted pests out of your home. Some pests that the cat will hunt include mice, rats, and insects like moths or house flies.
7. Less Space
Cats also require less housing space than a dog, so depending on how much space you have, cats can be the ideal choice. They don’t need as much room because they can take advantage of vertical spacing, so even in miniature housings, you can make it more spacious by adding more vertical levels.
Conclusion
Hopefully, this helps you improve your opinion on cats. There’s a reason why so many people own cats; they bring happiness and comfort. Maybe after reading this, you should rethink about getting a pet cat, but all I’m going to say is that these are some of the reasons why cats make excellent companions.
