Is a Cat’s Personality Dependent on their Face?

Is a Cat’s Personality Dependent on the Face? You might have done personality tests before, or maybe you think that your personality is based on your Zodiac sign. There are countless ways that humans have tried to figure out the workings of their personality based on different factors, whether it be birth date, birth location or how you were brought up. But did you know that you might be able to tell your kitty’s personality type just by looking at them?
That’s right, there has been some research that shows that the way a cat acts and interacts with their owners might have something to do with their face shape! If you’ve read our Cat Breeds of the World posts, you might have an idea of what kind of personalities some breeds of cat may have. Some kitties are naturally playful and curious while others love attention and want to snuggle up in a nice warm lap. However, many of our favourite felines may not be purebred and therefore, it’s harder to get a clear picture of what personality they have. According to pet behaviour expert Arden Moore, determining your cat’s personality might be as easy as looking at their face shape!
Now, these personality profiles aren’t an exact science. Although there is some evidence that a cat’s face can influence how they behave, it is better to use these observational tools to get a rough picture of how a potential pet may act. Just like people, no two cats are exactly the same!
Triangular Face:
triangle cat face
Cats with a triangular shaped face, similar to Siamese and Sphynx cats, can be more active and friendly. They tend to enjoy households with lots of things going on and often live happily alongside children, dogs and other cats. They usually have very pointy ears and a face that begins to narrow at the nose, just like a triangle.
Circular Facecircle cat face
The most common example of circular faced cats are Persians and British Shorthairs. It is no surprise that these kitties have wonderfully round eyes and a flatter face. These kitties are known to be a little more shy than other cats, but will warm up evenually and want nothing more than a good cuddle! Unlike their triangular counterparts, these cats will thrive in quiet environments.
Square Facesquare face cat
Lastly, we have square faced cats. These guys are known as the “retrievers of cats”, due to their dog-like personalities. They are eager to please their owners but are also very independent. They are not lap cats, but might have fun learning tricks in
exchange for treats!
What kind of kitty do you have? Does their face shape match their personality? As previously stated, all cats are different. Their temperaments are heavily influenced on what environment they grew up in, so it is always best to listen to the advice of shelter volunteers and foster families when finding the best cat for you!
